JX9NOA's shack:

My shack is named “Tikkebu”, named after the ticking noice from the paddle, and from the fact that one of the former station commanders was one of the Kon-Tiki expedition crew members. The suffix -bu means small hut.

The shack is located 200m south-south-west from the main station.

Inside the shack there is not to much space, but still enough room for one radio amateur, lots of old equipment, spare parts, and best of all, a bed for using when I have been up way to long in the night chasing rare stations..

Here you can see why getting good QSOs with North America is difficult. The antenna points 265° towards eastern USA, beaming directly trough the 534m tall Midtfjellet, and Trollslottet seen on the picture.

When beaming towards South America, the signal passes straight trough the 625' tall Loran C tower/antenna which transmits 250kW on 100kHz.

As we have lots of antenna towers on the island we of course have good climbing safety equipment. On the right you can see my personal climbing harness, with helmet and safety pouch (the blue one, containg thin line with plumb bob and pocket knife). On some masts there is a safety rail along the tower, but we have not installed such a rail on the 12m amateur radio tower yet. We probably will install safety rails from the German company Söll this summer.
